Mrs. Shahantadj Deyhimi

Founder of the Iranian Community School, 1927–2017

Founded in the spring of 1986, the Iranian Community School stands as a testament to the vision and dedication of Mrs. Shahantadj Deyhimi, whose lifelong commitment to preserving Persian language and culture in the United States has left an indelible mark on generations. The school’s beginnings were modest, with the first Persian language classes held in Mrs. Deyhimi’s home, serving just two students. However, her unwavering dedication quickly inspired others, and within months, enrollment grew to six, then sixteen, necessitating the relocation of classes to accommodate this expanding community.

The school journeyed from Mrs. Deyhimi’s home to various supportive community spaces: the Pimmit Hill Center in Fairfax County, St. Luke Church in McLean, and Emmaus United Church of Christ in Vienna. Today, the Iranian Community School proudly operates from its current premises at 311 Maple Avenue in Vienna.

Over the years, the school has flourished, continually broadening its offerings to meet the diverse needs of its students. Now an esteemed institution within the Iranian-American community, the school faces the promising challenge of demand outstripping available space, signaling potential for future expansion.

The Iranian Community School operates as a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under U.S. law, ensuring that donations (excluding tuition) are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted. Mrs. Deyhimi’s legacy lives on in this vibrant educational institution, fostering cultural heritage, language, and unity among Iranian-Americans for years to come.
